shutters speed - 2 March 2016

lost my notes !

-  if shoot in JPEG, the file size is limited to a certain size, until when it is viewed in photoshop etc, the actual size will come out.

-  if shoot pointing right at the sun, the image will come out with one or multiple light circle, depending on what len you are using.

how to achieve a 100% clear landscape picture?  shoot with wide angle, smallest aperture f/22, manual focus at a point, just at some distance before you, ~ 4ft, it will come out 100% clear and shape.

-  NOT to use AF, focus will move and result in a blurred picture

-  shutter speed controls 1)  amount of light in  2)  movement of the subject (static or blurry)

-  ISO controls 1)  contrast  2)  noises  3)  amount of light exposed

-  aperture controls 1)  amount of light in  2)  focal length

PANNING

- set the camera to shoot continuously first.  Find your subject, focus at it, then press the shutter and move with the subject, e.g. a car

-  when panning, do NOT set a too high shutter speed; otherwise, background will also be clear.  Desired outcome is subject is clear, background is blurred.

-  when do panning, it is easier to start with wide angle, then long len.

-  when do panning, use JPEG.  do not use RAW.  It is quicker.  A lot of images had to be deleted anyway

-  2-sec delay is a function that is useful when playing with MICRO, shooting flowers, etc.  It make sure that it is still, when shoot.  Picture comes out clear.

-  MIRROR UP / LOCK - is a function that allows you to open the mirror first (IT WILL THEN BE ALL BLACK), then when you are ready, press the shutter again, to shoot.  This ensure NO SHAKING of the shot.

-  BULB mode is for long exposure.  It works with remote control.

-  HDR - is a setting when the camera will automatically set two different exposures in an environment, where outside/inside light exposure is at a sharp contrast.  The two pictures will then be combined to one, to achieve a balanced exposure showing both sides of the world !

Active D-Lighting, is the same for this purpose.  Under Active D-Lighting, many options to choose from depending on the contrast of the two different light exposure, from auto, extra high, to low.

-  Flash - when flash is NOT in pace with shutter speed, it will result in subject receiving 50% of light, then 50% of subject is in dark.  Hence, camera set the max shutter speed allowed when flash is on is 1/200.
